As the internet brings the world closer and closer together, a fascination with other cultures has spread. Helping Russian speakers learn more about Korean culture through Youtube, Youtuber Kyungha Min tells us more about how she got started and her future plans.

1. Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Kyungha Min, and I am 27 years old. I was born in Cheongju, South Korea, but have gone back and forth between Korea and Russia since middle school.

이제는 더 이상 멀리 자리잡고 있는 나라도 멀게 더 이상 멀게만 느껴지지 않는다. 언제 어디서든 다른 나라의 문화를 모니터를 통해 보고 느낄 수 있는 시대가 왔다. 그러면서 자연스레 우리는 다른 나라의 문화에 대한 관심을 키우고 있다. 러시아어를 사용하여 러시아인들과 러시아어를 이해할 수 있는 사람들에게 한국 문화를 알려주는 유투버 민경하에게 그녀는 어떻게 유투브를 시작하게 되었으며 앞으로 그녀의 계획은 무엇인지 물어봤다.

1. 간단한 소개 부탁드립니다. 
청주에서 태어났지만 중학교때부터 러시아를 왔다 갔다 하고 있는 민경하입니다. 나이는 27살이에요.

2. How did you get started with Youtube?
It’s a funny story. While I was working as a Russian translator at the Olympics a few years back, I was interviewed by two popular Russian celebrities. They uploaded the video and a lot of people commented on the video wondering who I was. Then after a couple years my friend featured me on her Youtube channel, which led me to start my own, and people actually recognized me from that interview video.

Working as a translator or with makeup. I’m also interested in becoming a DJ—I’ve already played my first show!

2. 유투브를 어떻게 시작했나요?
좀 재미있는 얘기인데요. 몇년 전에 올림픽에 러시아 통역사로 일 하면서 유명한 러시아 엠씨 두명이 저에게 인터뷰를 했어요. 그 영상을 올려서 제가 누군지 궁금한 댓글을 남겼던 사람들이 많았어요. 약 2년 후에 친구는 유투브 채널에 저를 피처링 하다보니 저도 자연스레 유투브 채널을 만들었고 몇몇 분들은 벌써부터 저를 알아봐 주셨어요.

3. 빈 칸을 채워 주세요: 유투브 영상을 촬영하거나 편집하지 않을 경우에…
저는 통역을 하고 화장품을 가지고 일을 해요. 그리고, 저는 디제이도 되고 싶어요! 이미 첫 번째 쇼를 했어요~

4. Who is your Youtube audience?
Since my videos are in Russian, most of my subscribers are Russian or Russians living abroad in America, Canada, etc.

5. What do Russians seem to like the most about Korean culture?
They love Korean dramas, chicken and beer, and makeup, but they’re not big fans of makeup styles, just the products (like Tony Moly). 

6. Do you think there is anything similar between Russian and Korean culture?
I think that people from both countries tend to put some distance between themselves and other people at first, but if you get close you’re best friends for life.

4. 구독자들은 주로 어떻게 되나요? 
러시아어로 촬영하니 구독자의 대부분은 러시아인 아니면 해외에 살고 있는 러시아 인들이 예요.

5. 러시아 사람은 한국 문화의 어떤 부분에 제일 관심을 많이 가지나요? 
러시아 사람들은 한국 드라마, 치맥, 토니모리 같은 화장품을 정말 좋아하지만 화장 스타일이 아닌 제품을 좋아해요. 한국 메이크업 스타일은 러시아 여자들의 스타일이 아니에요.

6. 러시아 문화와 한국 문화는 비슷한 점이 있다고 생각하나요? 
두 문화 모두 처음에는 사람들이 다른 사람들로부터 자신을 단절시키는 문화라고 생각해요. 하지만 친해지면 평생의 절친이 될 수 있어요.

7. Any future plans?
I’ll be emceeing a Korean culture festival in July, I’m working on an online shop, and I hope to open a Korean cultural center in Moscow in the future.

7. 앞으로 활동 계획은 어떻게 돼요? 
7월에 한국 문화 축제에서 진행자를 맡았어요. 현재 온라인 샵도 계획중 이고 나중에 모스크바에 한국 문화 센터를 설립할 수 있다면 설립하고 싶어요.
